Frequently asked questions
How can I open a new trading account?
To open a new account with City Index, you need to fill out our online application form. It usually takes minutes to fill out, and we process most applications almost instantly. However, we may require additional information in order to create your account.
As an FCA-regulated business, we are required to ensure that our products are suitable for applicants. So, when you fill out the online form, you’ll need to tell us about:
- Your personal details
- Which products you want to trade in your account (spread betting, CFDs or both)
- Your financial status
- Your trading experience
It is important that you answer the questions accurately as it may impact your ability to open an account.
To open a City Index demo, all you need is your name and email address. Open your demo account here.
What instruments are available?
You can use your City Index account to trade over 13,500 markets, split across 8,500+ spread betting instruments and 5,000+ CFDs. That includes thousands of stocks, 84+ currency pairs, 40+ indices, gold, oil, 20+ other commodities and more.

What are the minimum deposits for a trading account?
We’d recommend making a minimum first deposit of £100. You’ll need to ensure that you have sufficient funds in your account to cover your margin requirement at all times, with some extra in case your positions go against you.
